Event details

Emergency services remain on scene at a hydrofluoric acid leak that has left seven in hospital. The incident occurred at a transport company in Fitzgerald Road, Laverton North around 11 am, with over 30 firefighters attending the scene. Due to the strength of fumes, two members of the public and five emergency services workers had to be hospitalized. HAZMAT are also assisting in the operation, with scientific adviser also at the site. Firefighters are currently using breathing apparatus and gas suits deal as they continue to clean up the spill. Hydrofluoric acid is a precursor to almost all fluorine compounds and is a solution made up of hydrogen fluoride and water.
